Attitudinal Research: Telehealth Adoption

Challenge: An NHS Trust needed to understand user needs and overcome adoption barriers for their new telehealth and telecare service, particularly among older patients showing resistance to the technology.

Approach As a Research Fellow at the University of Bedfordshire, exploring user needs and barriers across patient and referrer groups, published in the peer-reviewed BMC Health Services Research journal, which has been cited over 100 times.

Outcomes

  • Identified referrers as critical gatekeepers in adoption decisions

  • Found reassurance requirements throughout the patient journey due to technology anxiety among older users

  • Recommended equipment usability improvements and broadened target audience strategy

  • NHS Trust changes recommended: service redesign, referrer training, patient support
