Product Validation: UX Testing a Charity Website

Challenge: A charity, Versus Arthritis, needed to validate whether their digital services were being used as intended by their target audience and understand user needs to maximise their impact.

Approach: User research exploring needs, combined with task analysis, tree testing, and card sorting, to evaluate actual usage against the intended design—partnership with Nightingale Design Research to deliver UX research and testing training to the charity team.

Outcomes

  • 10 participants participated in the research to conduct a task analysis

  • Key findings: usability issues, navigation problems, and identified user needs for how to seek information through different avenues

  • Digital service changes implemented

  • Team capability built through training now conducts its own UX testing

  • Impact on charity goals: service reach, beneficiary outcomes, mission effectiveness and supporting service users
